Next week I am giving my mother a makeover. I love make up and hair, but I've never worked on an older woman before! (I don't do this professionally) I was wondering what some appropriate colors are for an middle aged woman (mostly eyes). I want to make her look sexy - not "older woman trying to look like she's 20 again" sexy.. Mature sexy. Also, how can I convince her to let me put foundation on her face?! She is afraid of breakouts, so she doesn't want to put anything on her face. Are there any brands that are for sensitive skin or acne prone skin? Or anyithng other than foundation that may cover up flushed cheeks or wrinkles? Thanks!

I would suggest oil free foundation to reduce the chance of breakouts.

I heard just the other day on a show where they actually WERE updating makeup on three 40-something year olds...

Do not use shimmery eyeshadows.

Older women should not wear heavy makeup, it just makes them look older.

Go easy on everything and keep it light (use a light touch). :)

I wouldn't use an eyeliner, but use the darkest shadow in a grouping of colors to line the eyes. (I only line my eyes for going out at nighttime).

And nothing is worse than too dark lip liner! If she has fine lines around her lips use the same color liner as the lipstick or clear liner to keep the lipstick from bleeding.

Go to http://www.carmindy.com for some other tips. I like how she does makeup on "What Not To Wear" Hey, you could even watch the show on Fridays for ideas! :)

Good luck!

Hi. Make your mother's eyes captivating by using shades of brown suitable for her skin tone, medium as a base, darker in the crease & lighter on the brow, then blend. Use brown eyeliner across the lid & from the outside corner to the middle of the eye underneath, smudge to avoid a 'stark' effect & brown-black mascara. These neutral shades soften the overall look yet, portray mystery and excitement.

Arbonne International offers the About Face Mineral Powder Foundation SPF 15 for realistic coverage (also, safe for all skin types, including sensitive & acne-prone). It contains pigments & crushed minerals that are blended into a light reflecting powder that can be applied lightly to heavily depending on degree of coverage preferred. Arbonne's products are all botanically based, contain no mineral oil (which causes breakouts), contain no animal products or by-products, are pH correct (verses pH balanced), dermatologist tested (verses dermatologist approved) & they don't test on animals. The products are pure, safe, beneficial & come with a 45 day, money-back guarantee.

The company also introduced in 2003, a line of products called the NutriMinC RE9 anti-aging system for face that are awesome. The disappearance of fine lines can be seen in as little as two weeks and the skin develops a healthy glow. The products are botanically based and contain antioxidants that fight free-radicals & an active form of Vitamin C which helps support collagen, elastin & ground substance(the strength & elasticity of the skin) & 7 other anti-aging ingredients. This would be great for your mom to look into.
You know, it's so great that you & your mom are sharing this...you'll make her BE beautiful on the outside and FEEL beautiful inside! Have fun!

Remember, less is more-concentrate on a light cover foundation, eyebrows-groomed and colored-not too dark. Easy on the eye make-up. a little shadow in the crease, very very light liner. Older skin does better with gel, cream or "stain" blush. It tends not to find it's way into fine lines.Always use a quality make-up primer before any application-It'll smooth the skin for a "canvas " Finish with a cover of non-color finishing powder, applied very light. I'm 49, so I know what your mom is going through. Too much make up looks just like it says-Too much. She is probably afraid she'll look like a painted doll. Accent her best features. And don't forget the lips. NO LINER!!!!! and a nice subtle neutral color, with a small amount of gloss, Only use gloss on the lower lip, and have her push lips together, like blending lipstick. She'll look naturally beautiful, with a very subtle amount of make up. Oh yeah, BLEND BLEND BLEND. What a nice daughter you are. Have fun and good luck!!!!!!

I would use Bare Escentuals makeup. You do NOT want to use liquid foundation on an older woman, it settles in the lines and wrinkles and makes them look worse than they are. Bare Escentuals is a mineral powder, feels like you are using nothing, looks totally natural. And NO breakouts - my skin cleared up after I started using it because I wasn't packing my pores with foundation.

For foundation, everything in Clinique is light, natural, and allergy tested, you can use that to reassure your mom.
For eyes, stick with dark brown eyeliner and light/neutral eyeshadow (with sparkle!). Curl lashes with a metal curler (curls better, lasts longer) apply one coat of mascara, then comb with lashcomb for natural lashes.
I think this is the most natural yet still sexy makeup look for a middle aged woman.

just look at the store for make up that is good for her kind of skin, wrinkles usually look worse with foundation, you cant cover them , use shades of soft browns for eye shadow, dont try to make her look sexy, make her look nice, if you go to big department stores with the expensive make up they will do it for her free. just to try to sell the stuff, and they are surely better at it than you are. Almay is a sensitive skin brand.
