i've been on the head start website for 20 minutes and still can not find out the income requirements. also my daughter is in speach and developmental therapy, so will that help to get her in? the only thing is she just doesn't talk, thats the only problem, she doesn't have any other issues. so i'm wondering if that will help get her in.

my daughter will be 3 in december. we're going to have to stop the speach therapy, so i wanted to start looking at programs that would be helpful to her.

Good is correct. By law school districts must provide accomodations for children with disabilities. My son didn't talk either, and the school had to hire a speech therapist for him. How old is your child? This may be a determining factor regarding acceptance into Head Start. Developmental disabilities don't make or break the book when it comes to getting into school. I believe it has to do with how many children that your community has placement for. Here it is done on a first come first serve basis, and when the spots are gone, they are gone, and you go on a waiting list, in case someone drops out. Give your local Head Start program a call or your Board of Education. They will be able to tell you the details.

When your daughter turns three years old, there are three options for her preschool education.
The Head Start Program was started in the 1960s for poor and disabled children to help prepare them for kindergarten and elementary school.
Second is the mainstream or inclusive preschool program in which she will be in a preschool classroom with both disabled and normal peers. She will still receive special education and therapy help.
Third, there is the special education preschool. It will be either provided by your school district, intermediate school district, or county. She will be in a classroom having specialized instruction with other disabled children.
If your daughter has an early intervention plan, they should be having a meeting regarding transitioning her to a preschool program soon if not scheduled by now. The placement should be based on your daughter's individual needs and services required.
