i have to write a research paper on ethics. i want something unconventional. NOT the war, NOT abortion, NOT euthenasia. something interesting that will be difficult to convince people of though still with a good foundation in moral philosophies. like why the pursuit of happiness is unethical.

ethics - is a system of moral principles governing the appropriate conduct for a person or group.
why is it important?
Just like religion, it is the code of conduct which makes the jobs of the leaders of the society easier. Otherwise, you know , chaos!

However, until present I think no leader in history has followed his own ethical code, it cannot be followed by an individual and at the same time make him powerful enough to enforce the ethical code on to his subject.
There lies the problem with ethics (or morals or religion).

It is the dual nature of Society.
For the survival, peace and progress of a group of people religion, order, law, ethics and morals are the foundations.
For the betterment, progress and empowering of an individual - read Machiavelli.

You cut out the holy three so why not attack "timing" as it relates to all of the above and whether it is moral to kill or not.

Or, sex, can you think of another bodily function that become illegal, imoral or unethical the minute money is involved other than sex.

Or, the morality of asking perfect strangers to pick your ethics topic and pretend it was your own idea.
