Sims Superstar *requires* that the base game be installed. That's probably why you couldn't play it because it sounds like you only bought one part. Superstar only includes the new towns, the sets, the new animations.
Your sims still have to know how to cook, bathe, read a book. And that isn't included in the 'add on' because -- well, it's an add on.
Sims 2 also has expansion packs, none of which will work by themselves. You need to have the basic game first.
You may only have an office computer. A computer that can only do paper work and basic computations will not be able to run Sims 2 very well. That is what 'gaming computers' are for.
To test to see if your computer can run the game:
In the black box, pick The Sims 2 - or the version in question

The more red marks your computer has, the more upgrading it will need. Your computer may be able to run Sims 1 games better but you need to have part one of the game in order to 'add on' to it.

The Sims Superstar is an add - on pack and what you need to play is the "base program" for the sims game. Sims 2 is a "base program" and once you get that????-- you will be able to enjoy the "superstar pack as well --- have fun!!!

Easiest way to find out is to go to the store and look at the box. It tells you the specifications of your computer that are required. Best I can suggest is a VERY good video card for the Sims 2. Otherwise the game is jerky and really slow.

well i love the sims but to play you either need the original sims, the first one or the sims deluxe package. whenb you try to install it it should ask for rit if that isnt installed.
good luck!

what's with the sims anyway? wouldn't you kids like a game with a more intricate plot like "silent hill 2"? Or maybe you'd like to blow terrorists' heads off with mighty big shotguns in "Counter Strike: Source"?
