Since America is a democracy, why can't we take a vote to decide if American troops should be sent to war?

To the smart *** in every crowd.....since this is America....we can change political formats. What worked 200 years ago, may not fit now.

To the well versed smart ***......maybe you should stop judging me and answer the question after you have thought about what the question is really asking. Don't make things more complicated by dancing around the real issues.

Because we are not a true democracy. We are a representative republic. We elect representatives to make our decisions for us.

Yes, because America has free speech. We have a representative democracy and without it nothing would ever get done. You can always write your Representative or Senator, send letters to the editor etc. Democracy is more about ideas than how government works. The Soviet Union's constitution had more human rights written into it than any other constitution on the planet -- it also had the one of the most repressive governments on the planet, the most undemocratic society on the planet and had abused human rights so much that it built Gulags to hold people who spoke out against it. Many dictatorships let their people vote, it isn't voting that makes a democracy work, it's free speech.

I think the Republican Congress has turned their power over to Bush when they are suppose to be part of the checks and balance! That is why both need to be replaced! We are becoming a fascist state!

The only way the Congress has to stop Bush is to cut off his funding!

Technically, America is not a democracy, but a republic. That means we elect people from different areas, to vote and voice the concerns for their constituents. That's why we can't vote for it. Plus country is filled with pansies, that want to cut and run before the job is done!

If each and every American that needed one had a pot plant in the lower back backyard we would not would desire to spend funds killing human beings over it. The prisons might have room for murderers and thieves. young ones would not have criminal archives because of the fact of a substance not one 10th as deadly as beer. we'd all snicker extra. u.s. desires to deliver troops to Pakistan and capture the Taliban and their opium growers in the middle and wipe them out as quickly as and for all.
