After having a baby a few months ago, I decided to go with Mirena IUD. After only a few weeks of it being in, I have noticed that I can feel the wire, it is about 1/2 an inch from being outside of me, I have also had some light bleeding and cramping this week. Is this normal to be able to feel the wire? I phoned my OB/GYN, but I am not going to be able to get in for 3 weeks, I am thinking to go to a walk in clinic. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this, I am hoping that there is not going to be some problem that will result in the Mirena being removed, I just paid 350.00 for this thing!!!!!!!!!!

1/2 an inch is nothing mine are less than 1/4 from being outside lol.

I have had my mirena now 3 years and at 1st I panicked and thought it was coming out I went to the DR and she said that it was bc my uterus is to low but the strings were left to normal lenght if I wanted them snipped I could but it might be harder at the time of removal. So I opted to leave them like a previous poster said if yo reach far inside and you dont feel the T then just tuck the strings around your cervix (this helps your partener not feel them either) The cramping and light bleeding is your period. It will be like this until it deminishes at about 1 year of having it best of luck! I LOVE my MIRENA

maybe your doc didnt cut the wires short enough, or maybe the IUD has been rejected by your body and is no longer in your uterus, but in your vagina. I know it sounds gross, but reach up there as far as you can and see if you can feel it. Use back-up birth control until you know for sure. Going to a clinic is a good idea, since you have to wait so long for your doc. Some womens bodies just reject having a foreign object in then. I personally havent had a problem with my IUD, but I know that one of the few worries with them is that your body will just expell it. Or maybe it has just moved lower in your uterus. A quick ultrasound should be able to tell them whats up. Good luck!

This is only my personal experience... I had the same problem with mine. The first bit of time that I had it... I had cramps and stuff, and had a period for like 2 months. The strings were getting uncomfortable and near the outside... they leave them long so that they can settle in to your uterus. That is why you have a check up after 6 weeks. Don't worry... unless you get pain that is more sever than period cramps. and if the strings ar poking you just push them back inside and when you go back to your doc, she can cut them. I think probably your body is just getting used to it. I have had mine for 2 years now... best BC I have ever used. I have had probably 3 periods since that long one... its great.

I have had my Mirena IUD in for 2 years. At first, I can feel the wires but barely and they were hanging out of my cervix, not outside of ME. It is normal if you can feel the wires. If they are coming out of your vagina, THAT'S NOT NORMAL. That means it has fallen out of your cervix and the strings are hanging out of your vagina, get into the clinic asap! Some women can't reach up to their cervix but they have to know what they are feeling for and WHERE to feel. Having the IUD exposed out of the cervix can be bad. Get to the clinic. It's normal to have cramping and light bleeding after insertion of the IUD. My cramping and light bleeding lasted for 3 months and my doctor told me that, that was normal! Did I mention to go get checked? please do so!

Your body is expelling it. They will remove it. My doctor told me about the signs of what to expect if you expell the IUD.

I paid $700 for my Paraguard IUD, and I have had it almost a year now. I have been worried about it coming out because I was told you need to get a new one if it is expelled. I would be pissed!!!

You can have them trim back the wire. It sounds like they left it awfully long. You will probably have cramping, it's normal. I would give it some time before you have it taken out.

the majority of women who have an IUD have them removed because of complications, including the one you are describing...lucky you it's not the worst thing associated with this!
