Now I hope you mean do you need to buy another heatsink and CPU fan besides the one that comes with the processor. Most processors come with a heatsink and fan. You should be able to get by with the one that comes with it, unless you overclock. However buying a better one can make your CPU cooler, which can help prolong the life of the processor. Either way, it is absolutely essential to run some type of Heatsink and fan, else your processor will fry in literally seconds.

Some of the old 486 CPUs only needed heatsink. All new CPUs such as AMD or Intel will need heatsinks and fans. Otherwise, you end up with a burned up chip. I also add more case and slot fans to reduce heat buildup. Check out Antec LansBoy case. Two Big A## fans front and rear.

yes, you need a heatsink [called CPU cooler] and fan [cooler fan]...since CPU while working can heat-up and after reaching ceratin temperature, it would trip and stop wotking or slow down...eventually, if such heat persists, CPU may fail...accordingly, you mya hv to use sufficient size heatsink and fan to keep the CPU temp down

YES YES YES!!!!! Unless you don't want your pc to work any longer, the processor gets VERY VERY hot, without the heatsink and fan you will actually melt your processor and board.

a heat sink and fan are a MUST for any of the latest CPU's. heat is a killer, in fact, i even recommend ensuring you have an exhaust fan (or two) to pull the heat out of your system once it has been pulled from your processor.
additionally, a heat sink compound must be used between your processor and heat sink for proper heat transfer.
lastly, for increased heat dissipation, a copper heat sink vice the traditional aluminum will keep things running smoother, and cooler.
hope this helps!
