I live in Ca. and would like to buy at lease 25 acers of land butted up next to BLM land or national forest, with the plans of building a home or cabin to retire to.

Nothing beats physically going out and seeing the property yourself - especially since you're choosing your next home! There are many books and websites that talk about good places to retire. I would suggest narrowing down where you want to retire to first, then enlist an agent that knows the area or areas you're interesting in. And then go visit the properties with the agent/s.
