'Anything alike' in what manner? physical features? traditions?

Everybody is different in that they've been through different situations.

Filipinos are the way they because of a cornucopia of factors throughout history including migration of many different peoples throughout asia in the different islands of the Philippines, the legacy of four centuries of Spanish imperialism and 100 years of American occupation and control and many other events that we as a people are still struggling to deal with to this day.

No people should be compared to other people. Everybody is different.

To answer your main question, WE (including you) Filipinos are different than other Asians because of: 1. Cultural influence which is mainly Spanish and American 2. Religion which is predominantly Christian (originated in the east but propagated in the west) 3. Geography. The PH is not located in continental Asia (East Asia, as well as the Middle East and South Asia -- East Asia is not the only part of Asia) On becoming a nurse, why some people chose to become a nurse or engineer or doctor is a personal choice. Maybe people notice that WE have lots of nurses because they are deployed in a lot of countries more than any other profession. It could be the demand in the past years or it could also be the higher compensation received by nurses working abroad that triggered it. "Most Asians" (becoming doctors and engineers) is a vague phrase. Take note that Asia is not comprised only of highly industrialized countries like Japan and South Korea. Two of the most highly populated countries in the world are also located in Asia. By "most" do you mean majority? If not, how many of the population would that be? And also there are a number of disciplines under the field of engineering - Computer, Mechanical, Electrical, ECE, Chemical, Civil, Industrial, Marine, Aeronautics, Geodetic, Mining, etc etc. You need to combine all of them to be able to say that Filipinos are inclined more on the nursing profession than engineering. IMO, it was only in the last decade that more students took up nursing.
