"nerd" is usually a square person. Maybe a little shy and timid, a straight-laced person. Some are very smart and focused. Has his own way of doing things does not conform with the crowd.

"geek" is a person usually with developed social skills who knowingly chooses to act out, being silly, clumsy, (nerdish) for attention. A geek can also be a nerd at an extreme level. Some are very smart.
Sometimes its hard to tell the difference; esp. the with the non-smart ones. They stand out because they don't usually "go with the flow"

Geeks usually have zits, and nerds are lacking in personality
