nobody can take credit away from cristiano ronaldo for his amazing ball skills and sensational solo runs that often eat up the length of the field.
but taking a closer look as to how many of them have ended in the opponents nets leaves one dissapointed.
i would rather its a case of a contorted attitude in a person with immense talent and potential.
take for example the 2006 FIFA world cup. how many goals were scored off ronaldo's passes? none.
and the only one he scored was off a penalty!!
cristiano ronaldo often forgets that soccer is a team game and the ultimate objective is to score goals. i agree with those who are of the view that if you play the game, then play beuatifully - joga bonita!
i guess all the sheen is lost if you are dispossessed often in your solo runs or if you cap a spectacular run with a mispass. i would rather watch a 'defensive' match rather than a match with more than four fruitless 'runs' by cristiano ronaldo.
all this was amply illustrated in the portugal germany third place match where ronaldo after a zigzag run made a back pass without looking in that direction which was a bit too long for the defender, and germany almost made a goal out of that pathetic piece of 'skills'.
if you check the efficiency quotient of the player on the field and value it more than the 'wow' effect that he brings, ronaldo would never make it to your list of favourite players.
bottomline is people hate him because:
1. he is over rated
2. he is not a team player
3. he shows off
4. his role in getting rooney red carded and winking after that

I think some people may dislike him over the Rooney incident but I believe the majority are just so disappointed that someone with as much potential as he has has mastered some of the more negative aspects of the game to perfection at such a young age rather than using his ability to build a reputation for himself as a fair player. He did sadly dive a lot during the WC which is for the moment how people are remembering him. He has great talent and if he uses it the right way the respect will return. That's what I have picked up anyway.

Let's count the reasons, shall we?
1) The whole thing with sending Wayne Rooney off is probably the biggest reason. It was just another way Ronaldo could send off a player to make Portugal win.
2) He dives on purpose. There have been countless times where he has purposely dived in favour of Portugal to send off even more players from the opposing team.
3) He's extremely arrogant and he thinks he's what anchors the Portugal team together. That will soon be his downfall.
4) This kind of goes with number 3, but he's a show-off and attempts to show his skills to please the crowd.
I think those are plenty enough reasons, to not hate him, but to dis-like him.

Because of the Wayne Rooney thing..
of course the English fans accused Cristiano Ronaldo for sending of Rooney.. but I guess now a days in soccer kicking a portguese player in the balls is acceptable
Face it Cristiano Ronaldo didnt do anything! And he sent England off in the World Cup =)
He's young & a talented soccer player that's very hot something that the haters of him won't ever be.

what he did to his MANU team mate rooney isn't pardonable but still i dont hate him. what he did is known as game tactic n almost all the players do it at one stage or the other but the bad thing was that he winked at his bench after having rooney sent off n an even worse thing was that he got caught doing so. no doubt the english are all quite mad at him.
he is a young player with tremendous potential n has the capacity to play a beautiful game. if rooney could forgive him... maybe the English too would some day...
so dont get all upset abt it. he is loved by many..

There is no logical reason for people to "hate" him. They simply do because:
1. They live in denial. They won't accept the fact that what Rooney did (not Cristiano) got him off the game!
2. They seem to be very envious people. Cristiano has what they can only wish for - talent, looks, intelligence, etc. !
SOME PEOPLE (the sickos) CAN'T STAND TO SEE OTHERS do better than themselves. And, instead of praise, they BASH THE SUCCESSFUL AND GORGEOUS ONES!
I feel PITY for them!

I guess it is mainly because of the incident that happened between him and his MU partner,Wayne Rooney in the match between Portugal and England. In that incident,CR clearly showed that he is somewhat of selfish, sending Rooney out of his team to weaken England so that Portugal could win.Apart from that,CR is also a diver,he is listed as one of the top divers.CR wastes his great talent in football by cheating and diving a lot, apart from being selfish and arrogant.English fans hate CR because of what he did to Rooney, since they are friends and both of them play for MU,CR shouldn't have been so selfish.CR is also a bad-tempered person, but that makes no difference with Rooney.

He's an egotistical show pony who dives to the floor and rolls around in agony any time another player gets within 2 yards of him. It's darn annoying. He wouldn't be playing in my team!
