Actually, people have been sad and depressed throughout history. However, the difference is that now it is acceptable to expose this to others. Therapist, Psychiatrist, they are all new professions that didn't exist before. Depression and other mental illnesses weren't understood and therefore weren't diagnosed. When you think about it, the world is a pretty crappy place sometimes. But it is much better than it used to be. People have been using drugs for thousands of years. Cocaine, Opiates, Marijuana, hallucinogens and other drugs were used by people that wanted to experience a better life. We are just more aware of thing now.

I'll tell you why we are all sad. It's because this country is going to hell in a hand-basket and there's nothing we (the people) can do about it! The politicians, big companies and special interest groups with a lot of money are ruining the country. Nothing is simple any more. Common sense doesn't exist any more. Everything is falling apart and not enough regular people will stand up and take this country back from the crooks! That's why we're all depressed....not sad....

many people are sad and depressed because of the fact they are faced with many problems that is in the world today. they look for all different types of ways to resolve this issue but they all are vain and still leave the emptiness in their lives to keep trying to fulfill and become happy. thus it leads to even more depression and saddness. the only way that they can become happy and filled with a joy and gladness is to look to the Lord Jesus Christ and read the word of God in the Bible and use this as a guiding tool for their lives.sure there are some that will say "nonsense! that stuff don't help me! " however i will stand up and attest to their non belief and say to you that it DOES work and you will see and feel the results in your life, and then you will know who and where it came from. medicines do not solve all problems, God does. read the Bible, and you will see. take care.

Because we have more spare time to think about things. A hundred years ago people were too busy just surviving so they did not have time to get depressed. Things are a lot different nowadays.
