in the past the best batsman was vivian richards
now so many players r batting very well like sachin,lara,ponting,..........
but if u r a fan of the cricket game , then there is no need of this question bcoz there is only one batsman in the world who knows how 2 play according 2 situation ,that's ramesh sachin tendulkar. i am asking 2 u - is any one is able 2 play the staight drive of sachin/ any of his beautiful shots?
remember his carrier records: 40 centuries in odi, 36 in testmatch. a request- don't think that ms dhoni is the best batsman in the world, ok

Your question is not complete. In the present time the best batsman are two: Brian Lara and Sachin Tendulkar. In the list of alltime greats are quite a few. Don Bradman,RanjitSinhji, Sunil Gavaskar.

Don't ask in a single word 'Best', because there are so many gr8 cricketers, to specify only a single cricketer is the Only Best Player!!!
There are so many in Every team in the present and the past!!!
I believ the best players playin upto today are:
Sachin, Dravid, Ponting, Lara, Inzamam,...n many more who are accomplished players and are all equally good in their respect!!!!
