I am a total christian and do attend church. I have been raised never to open the portholes to the other side. I do however, enjoy going to scary haunted places and seeing if I cannot capture a picture or two or hear something. I do not play the ouji or have seances. Just like to investigate a bit. Is that real bad?

as an individual it is your right to question the things that you are taught. just because a preacher says it, doesnt necessarily make it true. organized religion says many things that i believe God would frown upon. i fail to see how going to an alleged haunted house would be "opening a portal". if it is indeed haunted, you certainly didnt put the spirits there. if you believe in ghosts as well as God, then you must be able to come to the conclusion that God allows some spirits to remain behind. ultimately you must do whatever feels right to you, not anyone else.

Attempting to capture a picture or hear something of the paranormal (objective collection of data) is more like a kind of harmless scientific undertaking, assuming that it involves no attempt to communicate with the dead. Such a scientific endeavour would be like trying to photograph aliens from outer space without beckoning them or attempting to talk to them. Necromancy and witchcraft are forbidden for Christians.

The earliest scientists were only trying to figure out God's Plan by their investigations. I don't see why you couldn't investigate hauntings, but still be ok in the sight of God. Ghosts exist, so they must fit into God's plan somehow, right?

The Old Testament says not to encounter the dead(remember Saul the King and the Witch of Endor?)
The N.T. doesn't address this.So use your head and keep yourself safe in Jesus name.
( I just watched an episode of the Ghost Hunters,I'll leave to them!)
By the way I've encountered 3 over my life ,at 16,18 and 45 yrs old.No fun.

Umm it's not bad but I don't think that has nothing to do with God or your spiritual life, you know?
Ghosts do exist and I can vouch that since I had an experience myself but I think it'd be better for you to quit doing that. What good does it make anyway?

No, it's not bad at all. And just because some people in some religious sects believe that it is bad doesn't make it true. Always trust yourself before you put so much in a book or other person. Know thyself.
