My heels have such thick, ridged calluses on them that it's just disgusting. I don't have the funds to keep going and getting a pedicure every week. Is there something I can do at home to keep it at bay? The calluses are so thick it's awful. I've tried using a pumice stone and they don't work...

You can get a tool called a rasp - it's like a pumice stone in a way but it takes off a lot more dead skin. You can also get a tool that actually SHAVES off the callouses but be careful - if you go too far, you can cut into the living tissue and then you are in real trouble! Both of these tools are available at larger drug stores or department stores with a good Pharmacy/Health/beauty department.

ALso, try wrapping your feet at night in pure vitamin E oil. Apply the oil and then wrap them up in Saran Wrap, then a pair of comfy socks. The difference in the morning is amazing! Soak them in warm salt water or Epsom salts. And try to figure out what's causing the callouses - if you wear high heels, or platforms, or shoes that are too small this can increase the callouses. I used to be an exotic dancer and wore 4-5 " heels all night - my feet were NOT pretty to look at out of the boots! But when you stop wearing heels, the callouses and bunions and blisters do all go away.

Finally, try peppermint foot lotion - it is AMAZING. you can get it at The Body Shop.

Try SALLY HANSEN "Pedicure In A Minute" it instantly polishes away dryness, leaves feet soft & rehydrated and contains Tea Tree Oil and Vitamins and after that use the SALLY HANSEN "18 Hour Cracked Heel Creme" it instantly relieves & helps repair rough, dry heels and use it every day while you're in the shower and after. It's effortable and you'll find it at Wal Mart. In summer I'll go and get my feet done from the professinals but when fall/winter comes around I'll go with the above and it really does a great job by keeping the calluse at bay. Hope this will help you out.

I know this may sound strange but first soak your feet in hot water for a good 15 minutes, dry, and rub Vick's vapor rub on your heals. Wear socks to protect the foot. The Vick's will help to soften the calluses allowing you to use the pumice stone with more success. This method will take a while but eventually you will be able to maintain your heals much easier. You may also want to purchase a callus file found at most beauty supply stores. Hope this helps.

Syop getting a pedicure... I had the same problem...Pedicures only make it worse. When they shave the dead skin off it grows back veryhard and tough and then they do it again.... Hot heat also cause it as well the best thing to do is wear so foot cream and pumps that will make it soft as well...... at a time my husband had softer feet than me...lol.... I soaked every night used a stone and then vaseline and socks to sleep.. once a month I went to the foot dr who also made them soft as well. now my feet are perfect......

I had the same problem. Try using the pumice after your shower/bath. Then at bed time use a foot cream. I use Neutrogena foot cream. It cost about 4 dollars, not to much. I have used it for a week and my heels feel nice.

Now I know it sounds weird but try a grapefruit knife the tiny serrated edge works well on softened callouses. Cuts them right off without hurting anything else. Soak your feet or do it right out of the shower/tub. Then use a really good moisturizer. Treat your feet at night with lotion and cotton socks if you have to.
Good Luck!>^,,^<

There's another tool you can use, and this sounds really gross, but I had the same problem until I bought one. (I found mine at a dollar store, but I've seen them in Walmart, too) It's like a very fine cheese grater. You use it on your heels and it "shaves" off the thick calloused skin. (Use on dry feet only.) Afterwards, take your shower/bath and dry your feet well. Slather them with Crisco (Yep! Crisco. Two different doctors have recommended this to me, I finally tried it and IT WORKS!) wear socks, you'll be walking around with smooth feet in no time. (Best to put the crisco on at night, before bed.)

i dunno how to get rid of/keep at bay thick calluses. but when i get i lil one or my hands are scratchy. or w/e i use Renew lotion ( u can order it at www.melaluca.com) and its kinda expenses but it can get rid of pretty much anything. it can keep exhema away. my auntys son, (hes a lil kid and very picky about wut he will have) he has REALLy bad exhema or i dont even kno wut it is, and niether duz she i think, but he used it for the first time, and it was REALLY bad, and it was pretty much gone. so maybe u could try the Renew stuff, and it might soften ur feet a bit. i always rub some into my feet when they get a bit ruff, and they are fine. or if i cant find my renew, i use that Aveno outmeal and menthol or something, i cant reamember wut its called.

hope it works, it might not, but maybe try the Aveno stuff first. good luck! :)
