Sprinkle some baking soda inside it and close it up for a few days. That works for refrigerators, so might work for plastic containers.

Mix a heavy solution of Vinegar Water, and let it sit a couple of days. After that rinse well and let the open air, do the rest. This does work, but I should also note, it takes many "Airing" Days to remove all the odor completely. I once put vitamins in plastic, the above is how I got the odor out.

I'm editing my answer, I just found this:
To get rid of odors in plastic containers, ball up a piece of newspaper and seal it inside the container for a few days.

Soak it a sink with hot water and a little bleach. It will clean and sanitize. Leave it there for about 5 or 10 minutes then rinse with cold water. If you still have a foul smell try it again with baking soda.

I suggest using baking soda like a scouring powder. Scrub the inside with it! Use the juice from a fresh lemon to make a paste.

Try cleaning it with a baking soda.

Make a paste of the baking soda by adding a little water to it. Scrub and rinse well.

It has worked for me. Hope it does for you. ; )

If worse comes to worse you can always submerge it in a sink full of water with a little bit of bleach. Bleach is only harmful when wet.
