I screwed up my first year of college. Depression, anxiety, and laziness were all a factor. My grades are horrible, and my GPA is absolutely deploralbe. I got straight A's all through highschool, and I've gotten myself together. Can you start over again at a new school without transferring credits? Or will they want to see them?

Of course you can start all over. I would suggest starting over at a community college - after a year or two when your grades are up, you can apply to transfer to a better school. Most students want to have their credits transferred, but you don't have to if you don't want to. The school may want to see them anyway, but you can explain to the dean or admissions officer what happened, explain your situation, etc.

I never heard of starting all over again without transferring credits since your high school will tell on you if you don't since they were the contact the first time around when you started college.

So just keep going, make those A's and maybe take a double major, and thereafter a specialty and I think you'll be ok. Also toward the end of school find yourself a mentor who can get you into a job.

I went back to college after a LONG absense and discovered there is [at least where I am going] a bit where you can omit semesters, etc. I chose not to because I did not want to repeat all those classes.. and since I have gone back, my grades have been fairly perfect. Ask in the admissions office about wiping out that entire effort and starting fresh. Good luck. It has only taken me 34 years to reach this point.. I graduate in January.

You can start over, but do the first year at a community college. They'll let you in regardless of past grades, and a year there will prove to a university that you're serious about starting over.
