Theatre groups always need volunteers. You'll have more fun if you're doing what you want to do on a production. Do you want to be involved behind the stage? You can volunteer to work on the sets, costumes, lighting, props or sound (not all plays need sound.) You can also work on the running crew--they move scenery and props during the show. If you'd eventually like to get into stage management, the running crew is a good place to start.
You can also be involved with publicity or selling tickets.

If you want to act in a production, go on the theater's website and find out which shows they're producing this year. Then read the plays (get them from the library or order them from a bookstore.) Once you've read a play you'll know if there's a part in it that is suitable for you (a character your age, who looks somewhat like you, or whom you could make yourself look like.) Find out when this play is auditioning by calling the theater. They'll also be able to tell you what their audition process is. Follow their instructions! If you have time, practice your audition in front of a nice friend who will be supportive. Or look for an acting coach in your area (call a local university/community college/high school and ask for recommendations, or ask at the theater where you'd like to be involved.)

Don't be discouraged if you don't get the part you want on the first attempt. Once people get to know you, it will be easier to get roles. Good luck!

Learn how to build scenery and sew costumes, replace bulbs and sweep and copy. Then offer to do so until a role opens up.
