(sqrt 20 divided by 5) - (1 divided by sqrt 5)

I assume you mean
sqrt(20) / 5 - 1 / sqrt(5) and not
sqrt(20 / 5) - 1 / sqrt(5)
Parenthesis placement matters!!!

sqrt(20) / 5 - 1 / sqrt(5) =
sqrt (4*5) / 5 - sqrt(5) / (sqrt(5) * sqrt(5)) =
sqrt(4) * sqrt(5) / 5 - sqrt(5) / 5 =
2 * sqrt(5) / 5 - sqrt(5) / 5 =
(2 * sqrt(5) - sqrt(5)) / 5 =
sqrt(5) / 5

That would be (sqrt(20)-1)/sqrt(5)
