It is somewhat of stupid, but it is one of the rules in football.A football player can't take off his shirt when the game is still on,that's why you could see that most players would wear another shirt in their jerseys,or they would only take off their shirt after the game is over and then exchange their shirt with other players. It is as simple as this,if you broke the rule, you'll get punished.Since taking off your shirt is a 'small matter',you'll only be given the yellow card.

BTW,nice avatar and nickname. You must be a devoted fan of Marco Materazzi,I could see that.

a yellow card is given for bad behaviour on the feild it not only includes pushing or fighting on the feild but also obscene behaviour for you and me taking off our jerseys after scoring a goal might be " celebration " but for some it might look bad or vulgar . people normally people come 2 watch the match and not 2 see the players well toned body . and let me remind you that some times a player removes his shirt as a sign of insult to the opposition therefore if a player is found removing his shirt he can say that he wasnt insulting and since FIFA wants all matches in a freindly spirit i feel that this decision is almost right

Get serious! Taking off your shirt is not a natural way to celebrate anything. This is a planned demonstration. If there is a rule against this, then the player is intentionally violating the rule and deserves a penalty. Remember, a yellow card is a minor penalty.

Football is a world game and as such it needs to reflect the sensitivities of different cultures.

Do you think it is OK if because a player showed their chest that the game is banned in some country because they consider this immoral ?

They made the rule to draw the line somewhere and it also stopped players abusing the anti-advertising rules by wearing something under their shirts.

This explains why FIFA made the rule but I personally have no problem with it :-)

The players might find opportunity to advertise their businesses, by showing their T-shirts. So to avoid that from happening, a yellow card is issued for a player who takes off his shirt in the field of play.

There are of course other reasons than this.

I wouldn't say however they want, let's be realistic here. They have to have some kind of control, do you honestly think if a player took off his pants it would look good?? LOL
Taking off a shirt I agree there's nothing wrong with it, but we don't make the rules.

Its time wasting... the ref needs to see the number for his records and the more excessively you celebrate the more time is wasted and THAT is a bookable offence. Plus some people find it offensive (ask any Everton supporters!!) and for those reasons FIFA enforced the law.

Because the refs are a bunch of morons and so is sepp blatter. I heard they were going to start giving out red cards if you do flips as your celebration like Klose does.

i dunno,i think the rule is stupid too,But the point is..
Displaying Obscene chest hair is worth a yellowcard but if you have a waxed six-pack,then its ok...

You think this rule apllies to women's football too?
