At River Hill High School they planned an all-school formal dance, and set ticket prices at $10. They hired a disc jockey for $300 and had to plan on a custodial fee of $100.

1. There were various proposals for sharing profits from the dance. What function rule would give the senior class a share if profits were shared in the following way?
> Equally among the four classes in the school
> In a ratio 4:3:2:1 among the four classes in the school, with higher classes getting the greater shares

If x tickets are sold, profits will be 10x - 400

Shared equally between 4 classes:

Each class gets (10x - 400)/4 or (2.5x -100)

If you add the numbers in the ratios, you find there are 10 parts to be shared, so (from highest to lowest) the shares would be:

4*(10x - 400)/10 or 4*(x - 40)

3*(10x - 400)/10 or 3*(x - 40)

2*(10x - 400)/10 or 2*(x - 40)

1*(10x - 400)/10 or (x - 40)

Let's hope they sell more than 40 tickets!

a.) f(x)=(10x-400)/4
b.) f(x)= 4[(10x-400)/10]
the second equation is derived from the 4:3:2:1 split. imagine each as a part of ten. the seniors get 4/10 of the profits.. the juniors recieve 3/10 etc. and multiply the linear equation of 10x-400 (ten being the cost of the tickets and 400 being the total expenses.)

It's impossible to figure this out since by having a $300 DJ that probably sucks since they are so cheap, you have to factor in the number of people who leave and want their money back after they find out that the dance sucks due to bad music. Then they will in turn tell people that have not yet entered to save their money and not go in.... This would in turn affect the profits significantly and negate all hopes in factoring a correct answer since the dance would basically lose money..........and with no income there is no money to split up.

Hope I helped.
