Either you have a broken switch or there's a short in the wiring. Take it to a mechanic and have them check it out.

The usual cause of this condition corrosion. Take a piece of sand paper and brighten up the terminals on the bulb. Then roll a piece of sand paper up and run it in and out of the socket. Then try it again. If this does not work, then try shimming up the terminal or slightly twisting the terminal causing it to mis-shapen. Or try to crimp the socket to tighten it up. If these do not work, replace the socket, still does not work replace the bulb. You may want to try some dielectric grease before you try all the other things though.
But you have said what year car or what make car it is. This may change the answer. A mechanic or parts counter person will always ask for...Make, model and year. Remember to include these in your next post. It does make a difference.
