It happens here all the time. A liberal poster posts their opinion on an issue, usually the economy, and the conservatives are quickly out to call that liberal a socialist or communist.

If being a socialist means that you favor working people instead of big corporations, then I think that a majority of Americans, including me, are socialists, since a 85% believe in raising the minimium wage, more than 50% would pay higher taxes for universal healthcare, and a majority believe that labor unions are good. However, being a socialist does not entail that. Take your petty attacks somewhere else, please.

I consider myself "conservative", so why do people call me "right-wing?" To me, that's a negative term. I'll tell you what I'm about, and draw your own conclusions. I'm a hard-working, God-fearing Southerner who believes that you can't make a living for yourself unless you work hard. I believe that an education is important to make a living. I believe in the basic tenants of our Declaration of Independence...that all men are created equal, and we are all entitled to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. I believe in fighting for those rights, which is why I serve this nation in the Air Force today.
What I don't believe in is helping those who don't want to help themselves. Most of the people in my home state who are on welfare today are in that situation because they choose to be. They know that they don't have to do anything and the check keeps coming.
I don't believe that people who have entered this country illegally should be allowed to stay because their home country does not provide the same opportunities, and I sure as hell don't think that I should have to speak Spanish because you don't want to learn English.
I believe that every hardworking American has the right to whatever they desire in life. Despite what you hear, everyone has the same opportunities in this nation...it takes work, and that's what people are afraid of. I don't believe there should be special considerations for minorities when it comes to jobs and scholarships. If someone is unqualified for a job, but you have to hire at least one minority, it's not fair to the guy who has previous experience but you can't hire him because he's not a minority.

I don't think you're a socialist because you believe in raising the minimum wage. I think it should be raised too. I don't think you're a socialist because you don't favor big corporations. I don't either. I hate Wal-Mart and any other enterprise that forces the little guys out of business. I've seen it ruin families and it disgusts me, and I'll gladly pay a dollar more somewhere else.

Just because you believe that anyway doesn't make you a Socialist. If you were a Socialist, you would be more apt to believe in a more government-controlled econonomic system, with the distribution of wealth being in the hands of the people instead of the corporations.

There are two positions, capitalist or socialist. I am a capitaist so that would make you a socialist. And a socialist is one false step from a communist, essentially one and the same, take from the rich and give to the ruling elite. Do you consider yourself one of the ruling elite? If you aren't you are going to get the shaft financially.

Socialist means you are for the ruling elite not the working people. Capitalist means you are for FREEDOM of the economic conditions, you earn what you are able to and you get to keep it.

I already pay for my healthcare, my son and his girlfriend until he gets bennies, my mother in law as well as some help to my sister in law. You see I help my family and friends, and honestly you need to do the same because I cannot afford to take care of yours.

The confiscatory tax system in this country is criminal, a direct violation of Article 1 Section 8 of the constitution.

If you want people to help others ask them to help, do not steal their hard earned money.

Were you aware that if you make $40,000 a year the democrats tax system calls you one of the rich and you are going into the second highest tax bracket. How do you like the facts Jack.

Now read the links and come back with a reasoned argument rather than your feel good opinions.

Maybe uninformed, naive, misguided, but I would not label everyone who disagrees with me a socialist or communist. That would be a bit silly, don't you think?

However, regarding the economy, liberals will never get it. Don't mess with the goose that lays the golden eggs or you will make everyone suffer. The taxes for all those social programs you so covet are overwhelmingly funded by the wealthy among us. Liberals are also notorious for never understanding that you can cut taxes and increase tax receipts (much like the result of those dreaded and so-called "tax cuts for the rich" which have yielded >10% increases in tax receipts). When you see a rich person, you should thank them.

Also, don't forget that the opinion of the masses may not be in the best interest of the country. Most are not too informed, as you should know. Leaders must lead and should not be led by the results of polls from the masses (many of whom are uninformed).

I have never called anyone a socialist. You are not from the South I assume, if you can find 10% in favor of unions then assume they have moved here from up North. I have never met anyone in favor of paying for universal health care. We all want everyone to be covered but we do not want a large chunk of our incomes to pay for it. Canada has inferior care & I am not willing to settle for less care than what my insurance pays now.
I am friends with working people but never forget that they only work because of the big corporations that you hate. No corporations equal no jobs; easy math.

Can you prove any of these numbers other than some liberal site that does not prove it's rash statements?
I think you will find in the real world you are in the minority otherwise we would not have 26 years of Republicans to 12 years of Democrats in the past 40 years. Life is not always as we want!

Because it's easier than coming up with an intelligent, reasoned response. I personally don't see what's wrong with being a socialist, I proudly admit to it....So at least when they mindlessly call me one they're actually getting something right!

Note to Ted Kennedy AKA Swimmer - socialism and communism are completely different forms of government, that grew out of the same ideal, try picking up a bloody book before you call someone else an idiot, fool!

Well, IT WORKS :( Otherwise , why would we have a solidly Conservative 2 term president and a conservative majority in Congress for 12 years (so far).

Part 2: Well it sure is great to read some solid thinking out there. Thanx.

The problem is they think in terms of ideology. Not all Republicans, that wouldn't be fair, but the people who will just rain down insults on you. It explains why they like fundamental Christianity so much. They plain don't like to have to think for themselves and would, for reasons that are beyond me, rather have someone do the thinking for them. I also believe this is why they like Bush so much. Bush is kind of an authoritative father figure. The do-as-I-say-don't-ask-me-why type. I suspect it's a psychological thing. It makes them feel safe. That's probably how they were raised.
So as far as the specifics of your question are concerned, they just follow the pattern. It's either Capitalist or Socialist. If it doesn't fit the ready-made idea, it's wrong. They'd rather not have to think. Not much to be done about it. Thicker than cement for the most part.

The right weiners beg to be noticed, even if means to email their congressional page young men trying to get a sexual encounter!
But nothing they do is wrong to them, that is a symptom of narcissm. The right wingers need serious help with their ego and self-promoting wrongdoing does nothing for the most people!
They stick out for big corporations--hoping for a kick-back or an extra donation to their conservative-? election next time. What a bunch of losers!

Usually there is some element of socialism in what they are promoting. They believe they know better what's best for everyone and want to take Joe Citizen's hard-earned money and give it to another citizen because these Wise Elites on High have determined that it is both necesarry and right to do so. What ever happened to the founding principle of our country - Individual Liberty ?

If they can get the general public to ignore the "socialists" view then the real message gets lost in the label.
