There are usually options on whether or not you get software installed. Go thru the process on Dell of customizing the computer.
Also, go for OpenOffice.org's software... It's free.

Computers usually come with a trial version of MS Office. They are uninstallable once you get the computer. They are not permanently on there. There really is no way to get rid of TRIAL software, or "factory installed" software. On the contrary, you can have office pre-loaded on your computer, not a trial version, but you would pay for it. Here is the good thing about that: if you have a problem, it came from the factory like that, so the company has to offer tech support for it.

Yes if you customize your PC you should be able to exclude Microsoft office. You can always add them later but they may cost more than if you buy them as part of your package.
If the PC does ship with them you can always uninstall them if you really don't want them on the PC by going to control panel-add/remove programs.

No. You can't exclude it from the cost and they might be a trial version beside. It a package deal and they are still remains the competitive price but personally there are other computer out there that are cheaper then what is offered. Try using www.froogle.com and you see what I mean.

my dell didnt come with it in fact it was compleatly bare but you can get a anti ms dell
http://www.dell.com/content/topics/segtopic.aspx/e510_nseries?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&~ck=mn
they call them open sourse pcs they dont have anything on them so you will have to get a friend to give you a disk (with say linux on it) to install
but usually dell only puts only what it says it does on it and you can buy one with windows xp (home or office) on it dut if it does you can just uninstall it.
