Don't try the drugstore products, they don't work. Just get the nit comb. Smother your head with Vaseline and wear a shower cap for a few hours. This will smother the live ones. Seriously, wash your hair with peanut butter then shampoo that gets the Vaseline out. Then carefully use the nit comb to get the eggs out. May have to do this a couple of times.
Wash everything you can in hot water. Pillows, blankets, etc. Also vacuum furniture. Do this everyday for several days. Lots of work. Good luck.

Lice Shampoo.
People shampoo.
Lice comb several times a day.
If you find a Lice egg or a louce burn them or flush them.
Lice spray.
Vacuum, vacuum, vacuum.
Bag up all stuff animals and throw pillows in a black plastic bag.
Keep in the bag for weeks.
Wash everything possible in extremely hot water and dry on the hottest setting. If you cant wash it in hot water, bag it up.
Pick out all the lice eggs.

What I was told by the health department was that there can be dead eggs still attached to the hair especially if thick. But schools want to see the head completely clean.

I color my hair and that seemed to prevent me from getting it when my kids had it.

Another old remedy is kerosene, but I dont think I would do that .

Take Care and Good Luck.

Lice Shampoo

Lice cannot be killed by lice shampoo because its got immunity. There is a new lice killer out know that its a white thick oil that sorrounds the lice and suffocates it. So its not a matter of immunity any more. You repeat the treatment in aweek and thats it. HEDRIN LOTION is the name. ABSOLUTELY MIRACULOUS.

Hedrin 4% Lotion is the UK’s first and only licensed medicine specifically developed to eradicate head lice without neurotoxins and the resistance issues commonly associated with them. Hedrin offers an effective head lice treatment using ingredients with good safety profiles.

Hedrin’s active ingredient, 4% dimeticone, is delivered in a silicone-based lotion that effectively kills lice by encapsulating the insects, and thus disrupting their ability to manage water.

This unique and physical method of killing the lice by enveloping them means it is not possible for the lice to develop resistance. The effectiveness of Hedrin was proven during a randomised controlled clinical study the results of which were recently published in the BMJ. The study was conducted on 253 people in a community setting by researchers from Insect Research and Development.

Hedrin lotion’s odourless, colourless and pesticide-free formula is kind to the hair and scalp, making it pleasant for children and easy for parents to apply. More importantly, its two-dose treatment deals with the laborious and widespread problem of eggs and re-infestation by killing hatched lice on the second application

at one stage I had four kids in four different schools... head lice was a major problem... and had noting to do with hygiene... the little bugs seem to like clean heads....

use a lice comb after shampoo.
I continually washed all of our heads with a product called "Orange Medic" which is a natural product made in Australia with a strong orange blossom scent. three times a week at least use this shampoo.

strip every bed in the house and wash everything.
wash all curtains
anything that is made of soft materials can harbour lice.
soft toys that can not be washed need t be thrown out.
vacuum all of the mattresses.
place all mattresses in the sun for a full day flipping the mattress half way through the day.
vacuum your furniture and carpets.
steam clean carpets whenever possible

when all else failed I used my secret weapon: open all door and drawers and set 'flea bombs' in every room. Larger rooms need 2 bombs or more.
leave the house for four to eight hours.
when you return make beds with clean linen and blankets
change sheets on the beds as regularly as you can manage and vacuum carpets often (at minimum 3 times a week)
keep teddy bears off beds.

just go to your local pharmacy like Walgreen's and by some Nix, they also have the store brand, use the cream all over the problem area(s), after taking a bath, and make sure that you wash your bed clothes(sheets, pillow cases) add a few squirts of Nix or the (store brand) the the wash water. repeat this for 2 or 3 days and you are done.

Get RID. You also need to clean ALL your furniture, wash all your sheets and towels in hot water, throw out your combs and brushes, and wash all your hats. Vacuum the carpets thoroughly and shampoo them too.
