NO BASHING THE PRESIDENT. Whether you like him or not - this is not that kind of question.
Do YOU think things are better or worse there NOW?

Then please state if you are a Liberal or a Conservative - thanks.

social liberal/fiscal conservative independent

Worse, but better.

Let me explain. Saddam was a brutal dictator. He kept his people in line through fear and intimidation. His removal caused a power vacuum. The people he was oppressing now divided into their respective ethnic groups, each wanting a "piece of the pie", so to speak, and most were willing to fight for it. So now, instead of one group intimidating and killing the others, we have three groups intimidating and killing each other, with our brave men and women stuck in the middle, and I don't see an end in sight.

So, it is better, now that the have control of their own destiny, and worse, because they are killing one another for a larger slice of the pie, something they never could have conceived of under Saddam.

PS I like your questions when they don't bash people, like this one and the halloween one...

I am independent, leaning towards liberal on most issues. I think Iraq is better since we removed Saddam but now needs the UN, not just the US to teach them how to run things for themselves. They have been oppressed for so long that they do not know how to think for themselves. I think a blend of political ideas can give them the opportunity to decide what is best for their own country. It doesn't necessarily have to be a democracy. Some nations run quite well under parliaments and such.

I do believe however that if they are just left to their own devices right now there will be a great civil war and they will destroy themselves, which would be unfortunate. It would make everything we've done a waste.

At the moment it is worse. They need to decide what they want to be.The difficulties are different from any I have a reference for.The people we are fighting are not Iraqis for the most part, but the Sunnis and Shiites hate each other and until we can get them to quit fighting amongst them selves it is going to be bad.

This may sound terrible but if you want a quick peace we should kill all the Sunnis. It is not a solution that anyone would choose
but it would end the conflict. The insurgents are Shiite and don't really like killing other Shiites.

I am a conservative.Who else would give the most expedient remedy,

I'm a conservative (not a Neocon).

I think Iraq is much worse off for us being there, and not having a clue about how their culture operates.

They have gone from an abusive dictatorship to a civil war where people can do nothing to avoid violence, coming in random spurts as it does.

Clearly worse. Just look at the death toll for civilians, the lower availability of electricity, water and other basic services, the fear of violence, and having an occupying force that incites the violence, and who has no stated plan or timetable for when they will leave. Liberal.

i am a liberal, and i think it is a very tough call. i can say for certain that we deposed a very harmful, very dangerous man, but it was killing a snake with no fangs. at the moment, i think we are worse off than with saddam, but once america gets the hell outta iraq, it will be ten million times better.

Democrat.

"About six in 10 Iraqis say they approve of attacks on U.S.-led forces, and slightly more than that want their government to ask U.S. troops to leave within a year, according to a poll in that country."

Why should we continue to expend American lives and treasure for people who don't like us or appreciate what we've destroyed?

Iraq is better without the Americans because they have total control of the oil and its revenues without the occupying soldiers.
