What does the term Class "A" mean in rating cigarettes. What cigarettes are class "B", etc?

Who establishes and monitors this class rating?

ireland is correct. In the US, it deals with which tax class the tobacco falls into. My husband rolls his own cigarettes, and the package reads "Tax Class J".

Just so you know, Classy Granny is also sort of right. Different types of tobacco have a different rating based on their type alone. This rating determines which tax rating it gets. As I said before, however, loose tobacco is Class J.

Class A cigarettes are the one that were refined and passed through a proper cleansing process. The inferior ones are classified as Class B. The Surgeon General monitors this rating and always warns the people that smoking is dangerous to health.

I buy the cheapest generic cigarette I can find and they are still class A. So I think Willey may be right, Class B is the loose stuff you roll yourself.
