The Government doesn't rate movies or video games. The film ratings are issued by an industry trade group, the Motion Picture Association of America. I'm not sure what the name of the video-game industry trade group is, but they're the ones who rate the video games. It's all self-regulation. It started out as threats to each of those industries that required them to clean up their acts or there would be government regulation, so instead of cleaning up their acts, they decided to implement ratings systems. If the government threatens censorship, the book publishers will have to come up with their own ratings system, just as the MPAA and video-game industries did.

that is actually one of the most interesting questions ever find over the net, or yahoo answer. look, i think tha tit should be restricted too, becuz the same way the movies sjows you certain thing, when u r reading the book, when u r visualinzing, actually they r pretty the same, so it has almost the same effect on the people. i think that they should restrict certain books.
but actually guest what, the government is actually not really going to do it, as i think, bcuz their goals is that everybody know hw to visualise, when they r reading a book so that they can understand it, and most poeple have their onw kind of books they can read and as they are reading it they can visualise wat they are reading and this help them visualise better when they have to read something serious, which is exactly wat the goverment want. so for that reason i think that they wouldnt restrict them no matter hw bad the influence is on the kids who read them.
but that is a good point bcuz on the market place, tha is the government role to tell or restrict some product for poeple base on their age and their ability to the reaction of the product on them, but they dont do it perfectly bcuz they want to see things one their interest too cuz in the market place every one work on their own interest. so that is why i think they might not do it. but if some people make an "interest group" which are here to show off ur interest in the market place and make the government place some rules that are in ur interst and in the goods of the poeple reading them.
And that was a great question

The rating boards are not a part of the government. They are supported by the industry they rate.

Books actually make you involve your brain, unlike movies and video games, so if you can grasp the context, you are mature enough to handle the subject matter between the bindings.

Rating should be restricted to adults only because of perception.
