I want to try out for my University's cheerleading squad (prob either in the spring or next fall) and they require a basic roundoff back handsrping back tuck routine for tryouts. I only know cartwheels and roundoffs. How hard is it going to be for me to learn the other two? How long did it take you all? How can I practice at home if its hard for me to find someone to spot me.
I'm athletic but i've never cheered before. I have great strength in my legs
Thanks!

you need to join a dance or cheer studio near you that offers tumbling. it depends on how fast you learn things, and it took me about a year to get my backhandspring. after that the roundoff backhandspring is really easy. back tucks arent that hard either. once you are able to get the backhandspring by yourself, you wont need a spotter.

dont get discouraged when you dont get it right away...it takes time. GOOD LUCK!

Well I'm 13 and I'm a cheerleader for a middle school. It took me 6 months to learn a back hand spring. When i started gymnastics i already knew how to do a cartwheel and round off though. i just had to learn a back hand spring. If you want to learn how to i suggest take gymnastics at a local gym. That's what i did. It was kinda hard for me to learn it but if you practice every opportunities and set your mind to it you can do it. Well i hope i helped you with your cheer and gymnastics prob. Well i have got to go.

Tumbling classes are essential. Having spots and learning how to tumble correctly is key. One wrong move and you can end up with serious injuries. I tried for quite a while when I turned 17 to get my back handspring their were two things wrong though I was very afraid of getting injured and I did not trust my coaches. Try to find someone you can really trust, you are putting your body in their hands. Hope this helps! And if you have the determination to do it you will!

Maybe you should find a gymnastics class first. That can help you. It stretches you and can help you do flips and tricks. Now to be a cheerleader, you have to know that stuff in your head so give the class some time. You dont want to look like a fool when they ask you if you can do a double front spring and helicopter and you dont know what it is. Many cheerleaders started out hard not knowing what to do. Dont be one of them. work hard.

try to join a basic tumbling class 1-3 days a week. they will teach you back handsprings and later, back tucks. if you are already in shape, it shouldnt take more than a few months or so. stay positive, and dont give up ;) it may be difficult, but do your best and it should be a piece of cake. be patient with yourself and dont rush it either. good luck!

it took me a while to get my round off bhs b-tuck and i took gymnasitcs 3 days a week for a total of 10 hours. so it will take you a while to get it and there really isn't a way to practice at home if you cant get any one to spot you.
