I was reading Ann Rice books when I was in middle school. Don't limit yourself to something in your "age range". Go for the good stuff.

Companions Of the Night by: Vivian Vande Veldeis my favourite book. I love it. It has mushy-teenage-lovey-duvey-stuff, but it is really good. It's about a teenager helping a Vampire getting away from these Vampire-hunters. You should really read it. I'm serious.

Most of the Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel series are actually suprisingly well written.

The Cirque du Freak series, by Darren Shan, is a good one. It's very popular, cool covers, and there are about 11 books in the series now.

don't know about novels, but the 1980s movie "The Lost Boys" is a really cool interpretation of vampires. very little voilence, almost no blood, and not that scary. but really good, it has corey haim in it.

All of the Anne Rice series are great books and there are lots of them so you can stay tuned into the story for a long time

Bram Stoker's "Dracula" is an imperative, if you're interested in this kind of fiction.
Then, Kim Newman "Anno Dracula" and "Bloody Red Baron" ...
