I'm asking this question because, when I took him to his pediatrician the receptionist told me she didn't need to see my medicaid card. I got my bill the other day, and it says to call when I recieve my card or letter of denial. So is my card what they need or are they talking about a whole other card for my son?

As soon as you have new member to your family, you need to call the medicaid and let them know. You have 30 days to do it.If you have WIC program, contact them too.Good Luck. They mean the Medicaid Gold Card.

Congratulations on the birth of your son!
You need to contact your case worker, You will definitely get another card for your son but your case worker has to sign him up. Keep any bills you receive and when you get your son's card either call the offices or mail in your son's card number and the bill will be covered. Medicaid back dates to the day he was born.

I just had my baby two months ago and wondered the same thing. the receptionist at my sons pediatrician office told me that if the mother is covered under Medicaid when the baby is born the child is automatically covered until he/she card comes in, but you have to inform the human resource office when the child is born for this to happen. Once the baby receives his card just inform the hospital and pediatrician and then give them your baby's SSN .

I am sure that while you were in the hospital they put him on medicaid. He will get his own card. Medicaid will pick up bills from 3 months back, so try calling Social Services and ask them how long it should be before you receive his card.

If you are on medicaid I believe the hospital automatically applies for your son. He will get his own card for you to bring in. Drs offices that accept medicaid know that it takes a while for the cards to come in and will see your son before the card comes in.

You need to call your case worker and tell them you had your son, give them his birth of date. Your son should be covered, your case worker should be able to answer all those questions for you. But, they do need to know that your son was born, so they can add him under your medicaid plan. In Missouri, they get their own cards, and that is the card you give to the peditrician. Hope this helps!

Did you not call your caseworker and report your son's birth? They ask that you do that within a few days of him being born. He will be issued his own card with his own number, but he should be covered by your card for up to a month.

At my son's first pediatrition appointment, they told me the same thing, but the next time we were there, I had all kinds of trouble with it! They kept telling me that they couldn't accept any new Medicaid patients, even though they'd already been seeing him (once at their office, and twice before he left the hospital).

What had happened was that eventhough I reported his birth, I forgot to call and report which pediatrition I'd chosen, so they assigned me one. And it just so happened that the one they assigned to me had told me that she wasn't taking on any new patients at all anymore, she was going to let her practice wind down.

It took me forever to get it switched, so don't make my mistake, and call your caseworker Monday morning.

yes they need to see a card for your son because he is probably not in the system yet. Get a hold of the medicade office and fill out the proper paper work for your son. Yes more paper work but just think about what you are getting paid for to fill it out. the cost of the first year of most babies medical expences can reach a whopping 5,000. you will get all this at no cost for just a few hours of your time filling in papers.

Yes, your card usually will work for baby for the 1st month, but you do need to call your worker/ case manager and report his birth and he will be issued a card & covered in full.
