People have a necesarry urge to confess. A criminal will always tell at least one person of their wrongdoing. In this case, it seems as though they think they can talk their way out of it with the Dateline crew and then when their talking to the police they seem that they are already on tape and they might as well cooperate.

Also, they aren;t showing us the many, many perverts who aren't cooperating.

Not sure. It could be a number of things:

1) A deal made in court, not necessarily to go on dateline, but to publicize their acts as a way of increasing awareness, sort of a public service announcement.

2) Something from their psychological treatment, court mandated or not, that helps them atone for their actions in their minds, or gives them closure by making them state the full nature of their offense.

3) Inate awareness that they have come to about their issues that compels them to want to warn others.

4) A chance to brag, since they won't get to actually pursue internet sex crimes anymore (sick, but possible).

5) Actors playing the parts of internet predators with information from their police reports. (I do not think this likely, but I am somewhat distructing of 'news' shows like this.)

I saw this on Oprah. I believe it was the guy from Dateline that they had on and showed a bunch of his interviews with these predators. It was his belief that the people were willing to talk because they really wanted to get caught and get it off their chests so they could be helped.

I think the thing that motivates them to confess is when they realize that the police already know everything that they've said and done, so it doesn't help to deny their actions. These guys are boned anyways; they might as well be honest.

It is the evil of seeing the camera and thinking maybe these guys will keep this anonymous. They don't think that the police are right outside the door. Apparently they spend most of their time on the computer and no time watching television.

well considering its on tape and the whole world is about to see them there really is no point in lying unless there that stupid and want to be liars and predators all tho that's nothing close to being a predator...

I think they most likely think I'm already caught why not tell all. or they may be thinking they'd get off to me personally not a tough enough sentence for a sexual predator they should cut it off smile

USUALLY THEY ARE TRYING TO MAKE UP EXCUSES OF WHY THEY DID IT, SO THEY PROBABLY THINK IF IT AIRS MAYBE IT WILL MAKE THEM LOOK LIKE THEY DIDNT REALLY MEAN TO DO IT, PERSONALLY I THINNK SOMEONE SHOULD TIE THEM UP AND CUT IT OFF SO THEY WOULDNT HAVE A REASON TO SHOW UP AT ANY MORE KIDS HOUSES TO TRY TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THEM.

would have to be, they wouldn't be allowed to pay them - against the law to profit from crime.

or else they are just desperate for some noteriety...
