I love our health system. I don't have to ever feel like I can't afford to see my doctor, or that despite the fact I am sick I can't afford my perscription. I never have to worry that I'll get ill or hurt and have to go into debt to pay off my medical bills. All in all I'd say I love our health system.

How do you feel about yours?

It's pretty good if you've got a family doctor. It's not quite as good if you don't - you're faced with long wait times in emergency room at the hospital or at drop-in clinics.

I've never had any first-hand experience, but I hear that you can be waitlisted for a long time for certain procedures (hip replacements, etc.). From the stories that I've been hearing, this situation seems to be improving.

Keep in mind that not everything is free. People over the age of 18 have to pay for eye examinations, for example (at least in Ontario). Most people have health or dental benefits through work that cover the things that the government plans don't cover.

Despite it's shortcomings, I think that the healthcare system in Canada is way better than in the US. Prescription drug costs there are absolutely outrageous, not to mention the cost of extended hospital visits. Without insurance, you're basically screwed if you get sick. Poorer people who can't afford insurance are out of luck.

In short - I love Canada's healthcare system! We pay for it with higher taxes, but in the end, it's worth it and helps those who wouldn't be able to afford decent care otherwise.

I am not Canadian, but I have heard that they like their national health system. However, if you need an organ transplant or a major surgery, you have to wait a LONG time...sometimes over a year.

I like it. Some may not agree because in U.S.A. if you pay you get immediate attention. I heard somewhere that Canada is gonna introduce that too. So it's either free but wait or pay and get attention fast. Usually at hospitals if you have a more serious injury anyways, you get attention before others.

I was lucky, I had a gallbladder attack, went to the ER. They kept me overnight and took it out the next day. We still pay for it. Here in Alberta, I pay $132.00 every three months for Alberta Health Care.

I am sure they like it quite well being it pays 100% for the physician and hospitalization. They do have to pay some for their prescriptions but not as much as we do in the United States.

I like it, our health care is rationed, of course, everybody's is; but ours is not rationed by the size of your bank account, but rather your degree of need. And it's not an insurance company's private bureaucracy determining what can be done for you, but your doctor and the Ministry of Health.
