It would be OK if you can manage to secure accommodaion at Vashi. It is directly connected to Vikhroli by railway and there are frequent connection from Vashi to Vikhrli via Thana. Both stations are on the same C.R.line. The journey would not take more than an hour or so.But the local trains are always crowded either way. But if you are ready to overlook a bit personal invoncenience there is nothing like travel by a local train It is the direct line to Mumbai life .The mutual accommodaion(this covers seating/standing accommodation, the readiness to help each other are to be experienced to be believed. The locals are the epitome of India and to whatever state you may hail from you would never feel an outsider. But beware once you get into the thick of Mumbai life you would never want to get down from the swing. There is also city bus service with frequent services. Taxies are available aplenty.

You could try to find accomodation at the Godrej colony in vikhroli. If you are a bachelor, it is easy to find subletting apartments there. Ofcourse, Vashi is well connected to the place and no need to change trains, but wouldnt Kurla or Mankhurd be better, the rates are lower than vashi and these places are closer too. Hope this info will help.
