Manson gave his followers the orders to carry out the murders that he had planned. His stated purpose was to blame black people for the perpetration of the murders of prominent white people in the hope that whites would unite behind him in a racial war. He was and is completely insane. He should have been gassed 30 years ago, but the Supreme Court held that his death sentence was unconstitutional. He will remain a guest of the State of California for the rest of his life. It is beyond me why anyone would find such a monster appealing on any level.

I don't think he had the balls to do it himself, he brainwashed others into doing it for him.
