I know many people who complain to me about taxes being too high, how there aren't enough police in their communties or that their neighborhood schools suck, when I ask what proposition they voted for in the last election or who they voted for I get the same answer: "I don't vote, cause it don't make a difference." Makes me want to scream. How can I get them to understand their potential power as us citizens.

while its true that one vote doesnt matter in the grand scheme of things, there is power is vast numbers. the people who complain are apathetic and care more about b*tching than solving problems - if they gave a damn they'd get involved; they get active in their communities, help raise funds for causes, help fight for causes - and if they dont have that kind of time, they could at least recognize the people that are fighting for their causes and vote with them once in a while.

You're da** right. If one will say his 1 vote don't count much, then if 1 million people will say the same, then that is a million votes gone.

Excellent point. People don't realize that they can affect whether or not a bond issue gets passed. Of course, don't expect it to just go away. They always find a way to stick it back on the ballot until it finally passes.

hey, i cant vote yet and i b*tch plenty...but still, just slap em and yell at em to start voting because its the only way they can do anything...unless they want to run for office, but you can always conveniently forget to mention that to them...anyone who doesnt vote isnt smart enough to be in office, but id rather not risk it anyway.

But that makes your vote even more important! Those individuals are whiners and whiners always sit on the sidelines.
