There have been quite a few studies that suggest the biggest factors in children of all colors have run ins with the law are the following: Poverty, single parent family, and low school performer. I don't think it is so much the color of the skin that determines whether or not a child will get in trouble with the law but the dynamics of the family.

I really think that juveniles of color are picked on unfairly! My G. daughter is in trouble way too much w/ the police. She is 21 yrs old. She can't drive to the stop'n shop without getting harrassed by the police.

Your question is faulty: Asian youths are of color and don't have 'higher rates of contact with police.'

Looking at the juvy detention halls, you should be asking: why African and Hispanic Juveniles have higher raets of contact w/ police......

Certain groups of people seem to get into trouble more than others. For example, I'm sure more men are arrested on any given night than women.

popular black culture emphasizes gang and criminal activity

think about the psyche of a black person. a white guy goes to the black part of town to buy crack. he asks a bunch of black guys until he finds it. imagine what that does to a black person's mindset. especially youth. they figure, sh*t... my mom can hardly support us on our own. i need to make money. whats the easiest way to make money? sell drugs. its not like they want to. and your right, they don't have to either. but it happens. everyone, white black latino whatever is to blame for this.
