kids will understand

money

get a lot of quarters, change in general, pennies (wherever or whomever you can get them from) and have them practice counting them.

If they can add, and subtract (1st, 2nd grades, and so on) teach them what the values of each coin means. Then have them bring in some coins each day, or whenever they can, to put in a special fish bowl to save up for a "big at the end of the year trip". You can cash it and use the money towards them; they don't have to know that the school paid for the trip.

Recipes, cooking.
Any recipe where you get to physically count what you put in. If you glance at one, I'm sure it'll have stuff like 3 teaspoons, 2 cups... etc. even teach them 1/2 values (maybe not 1/4ths, that's kinda hard). If they see it in the cup, they can visualize "1/2" and understand what it means.

Time
if you have a clock that ticks, you can count some of the ticks (say from 12 to 3) and tell them there's 60 seconds in a minute, 60 minutes in an hour, 7 days in a week etc.

have them count the kids in the class.
You have to do that anyway, right? :-)

that's my suggestions.

My most common use everyday for math is with money. Counting for what I pay and what I get in return. Our mind uses math unconsciously also to calculate a myriad amount of stuff, like space, when you drive a car and so on. Some people might use math more than others depending on the job they do.

Also on my free time I use math when I play solitaire or free cell on my computer.

Math is the universal language, if everything fails you will most likely understand math the same way everybody else on the planet does. And I guess it will b e useful for communication with aliens.

How can you not use math?

It is all parts of our lives. What you buy or sell needs math. Making sure that you drive your auto at a correct speed or read a clock or schedule meeting dates and times, all need math.

To not use math is to be less than illiterate.

addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and counting is still useful and i think it will be forever because it is the basic of math.

when you go shopping and you only bring with you a budgetted amount, so you have to select things by price... by adding them the variety of things you pick, you'll know if your money will fit.
