Yes and envious. We are all different and this causes one always to make comparisions with other people. If something irritates one about the person to whom one is comparing himself with, then this must be so important to that person to warrant the critizism and the amount of energy they waste whilst doing so.
The way you look, dress, walk or your profession, whatever, people will always be nit-picking, and have been since time began!
I understand your question very well, basically you can say that compulsive criticizers have very shallow, empty and unsuccessful lives and try to compensate that by always attacking resp. criticizing others!

I guess it makes you feel better when you can put someone down. It makes you feel like your life is not so bad if you can make someone else feel worst then you. The only one you are hurting is your self.I know because I used to put every one around me down .After a while I wondered what happened to my friends. My wonderfull wife told me what I was doing & I went to each person & asked for forgiveness & most did forgive. I am so lucky to have such forgiving friends. I love every one of them..

Most of the time. But if you were wearing something godawful you WOULD want me to tell you, right? Other than helpful criticism (which offers a solution) most criticism is jealousy running around with another name.

There is an old saying "Blowing out someone elses candle, doesn't make yours burn brighter".... cutting someone down makes some people feel superior... that's all I can say about that!

I tend to agree that people live by that philosophy... knock down others, so you can build yourself up... But, we can't admit that we have anything wrong with ourselves though, can we???

I think they do it because for 30 seconds or so it makes them feel like they are somebody or something!
