If I make a web page can other people google it?

I've done some research and found out how to make a personal web page for free but when I google it it doesn't come up. Can I make a free web page that other people can pull up through a google or yahoo web search?

You need to submit your web page to Google:
http://www.google.com/intl/en/submit_content.html

If you want to have your web page listed on other search engines (like Yahoo! or Alta Vista, or Ask.com), you'll need to submit your URL to each one.

There are two things you need to do so as to google your web page. First, you need to tell the search engines that you exist and please take a look. This can be a free service or cost a little. It's up to the search engines to decide if your site is worth a look. They may look but not index your site, however. It can take up to six months to get around to looking for your site.

The second thing you have to do is to add meta tags to your html files with at least a bunch of keywords, so the search engines will know how to index your page. Here's an example of a meta tag (put in the section of your html file):



If you have no metatags and you don't tell the search engines you exist, then you don't exist.

I'm not a website expert...but my understanding is that just because you have a website/page...it isn't automatically within the search engines. People that you want to visit your site would need the exact url to find it. You can "submit" your site to the search engines (some companies will charge money to do this process for you) for free...but they may not "pick it up" if it isn't constructed well. I believe the search engines have programs that "crawl" around the world wide web and seek sites that match their criteria (ie: well constructed, not many errors with links, etc.).
