Proxima Centauri is the closest star to the Sun, but I don't think you can see it from Earth. Alpha Centauri is also close, in the same star system as Proxima Centauri, and I believe you can see it with the naked eye if you're in the right place. Both of them are about 4.4 light years from the Sun. The closest known extrasolar planet is Epsilon Eridani b, orbiting the star Epsilon Eridani, about 10.4 light years from the Sun.

The closest star to the sun is a faint red star called Proxima Centauri, but its brighter neighbors Alpha Centauri A and B are said to be Sun-like. Proxima Centauri is classified as a red dwarf and contains just a fraction of the mass of our Sun, and is about 0.01% as bright as the Sun.
Rigel Kentaurus, the triple star system contains the Proxima Centauri. Proxima Centauri is 4.3 light-years from the Sun. It has an absolute magnitude of 15.5. Its coordinates are:
1. \alpha = 14.4966 hours
2. \delta = -62.681 degrees
3. d = 1.29 parsecs

Proxima Centauri. About 4 light years away. Proxima Centauri can NOT be seen with the naked eye. Its apparent magnitude is 11.05, and the human eye can only see apparent magnitudes of about 6
The closest extrasolar planet so far found orbits the star Epsilon Eridani at a distance of 10.44 light years. http://vo.obspm.fr/exoplanetes/encyclo/catalog-RV.php?&mode=0&more=yes

Proxima Centauri is the closest, but there has been some speculation that our sun is in a binary system with a brown dwarf called 'Nemesis'
