from London (The City) to yorkshire museum (north yorkshire) it is exactly 221.5 miles (340.4 kilometres) and takes approximately 4 hours 6 minutes by car, vairies on traffic obviously :D and is pretty much straight down the A1(M)

Depending upon where exactly you are going its probably 100-200 miles. No you cannot get the underground, that only covers london and its suburbs. You will be better off going by rail or coach.
