What are your views on the current progressive tax system and how would you feel if a negative flat tax system was implemented?

I would MUCH prefer a flat tax system.

Morally, I am opposed to a progressive tax system. I just don't get the idea that you should have to pay more simply because you HAVE more...it seems like robbery and extortion to me. I think that as long as people are getting the same services, they should pay the same price. Anything else is unjust.

Practically speaking, I think a properly crafted flat tax would be much more effective than a progressive tax. Progressive taxes punish achievement and effort. Flat taxes do not. Under a flat tax, the rich would STILL pay more than everyone else, but they wouldn't be disproportionately burdened like they are now. With that burden lifted, more money could be invested, which would lead to job production, increases in the standard of living, and prosperity.

I think that any system where the rules or the codes are much simpler would be better. Unfortunately, this will never happen due to the lobbyists and people that support the current system.... it creates jobs (socialism you say?). The problem is that the lawyers have wound up running our country, so they keep things complicated, because they think everyone else is too dumb to understand it and this lets them stay in charge...

It brings to mind...

What is the difference between a dead armadillo (or anyother local varmint) in the middle of the road and a dead lawyer in the middle of the road? ---- skid marks in front of the armadillo!!!

And...

What do you call 40 lawyers at the bottom of the Sabine River (or the local river)? A Start!

Lastly....

What's the difference between a bottom dwelling scum sucker and a catfish? One's a good fish you can eat and the other's a lawyer!

Progressive tax system is not good because those who work harder are taxed more making them equal with low wage earners. This systems provide higher tax rates for higher salaries. The same rate should apply so that others are encourage to earn more rather than giving more taxes.
