I need help on comparing and ordering rational numbers:
17 over 51 is greater than less than or equal to 0.3 (with notation bar on top)

Firstly, what grade are you in...and it would be equal. One way to find this is to find the percentage or decimal of these two. 17 over 51 = 0.3333333333333333333333333.... and that would be equal to 0.3333333333333333333333333333333333...[notation bar would be on both of these. There are a couple of ways that you can approach this. The first is to convert 17 over 51 into a decimal. Do this by dividing the top number by the bottom number, either using a calculator (if allowed) or long division. Compare the result with 0.3 to get your answer.
You can also convert 0.3 into a fraction and compare the numbers that way. As you probably know, 0.3 is equal to three tenths. Therefore, 0.3 equals 3 over 10. Now, to compare the two numbers you need to find a common denominator. This is very difficult to explain using just words, but I'll try my best to explain using this problem as an example.
The lowest common denominator for 10 and 51 is 510. To convert 3 over 10 to a fraction out of 510, multiply 3 and 10 by 51. 3 times 51 is 153, and 10 times 51 is 510. Therefore, 3 over 10 is equivalent to 153 over 510. To convert 17 over 51 into a fraction out of 510, multiply 17 and 51 by 10. 17 times 10 is 170, and 51 times 10 is 510. Therefore, 17 over 51 is equivalent to 170 over 510.
Now you have two fractions - 153/510, and 170/510. It should be obvious which of the two is greater. You can you this to answer your question.

use a calculator, u get 17/51 to be .33333 and it keeps on going(it is equal to .3 with a bar ontop) so it's equal, whenever u get something like this, just divide out the fraction into decimals and compare it from there, it should be easier.

So it equals point 3 repeating (0.333333333333333 repeating).
Do long division on 1/3 and you should see you keep getting 3's after the decimal point.
