Try a little lime away. Cover the stain, let it set for a littl bit, then wash in cold water.

My sister is a high-school science teacher and swears by oxalic acid. She would routinely use it on her kids' clothing to remove rust stains. I'm pretty sure she would bring some oxalic acid home from her school chemistry lab in order to remove those rust stains! Maybe you can ask for oxalic acid at a hardware store? Watch the strength though. I would start with a low concentration and work up - if needed. Ask for professional help if you wish to dilute it before trying it.

I know when the water lines are flushed and you have been doing laundry during that time you get terrrible rust. I called the city and they sent me some stuff to use in the laundry and it took it all out so try calling whoever flushes your mains and see if they can get u a small amount. Its worth a try to ask

*Lay the rust-stained fabric over several white paper towels, which
will act as a blotter and absorb the rust.
*Cut a lemon in half and saturate the stain with the Fresh or Bottled lemon juice.
*Set the fabric (with the paper towel blotter beneath) out in the sun to dry. The rust stain will disappear.
*Launder as usual.
