Several methods:

The simplest is by equally sharing electrons in a molecular orbital, such as two Hydrogen atoms forming diatomic Hydrogen gas (H:H). This is called a covalent bond.

Another is to transfer one or more electrons to become an ionic compound, such Sodium releasing an electron to become the Sodium ion and Chlorine accepting one to become a Chloride ion (NaCl or Na+ plus Cl-).
