Propaganda works if it is the most compelling source of perspective available, and it is: "a TV in every home." Besides, it plays to the irrational; fear of "terror" is an effective mix of xenophobia and paranoia.
Wasn't irregardless a made-up word used by Homer Simpson?

Yes, but it is more complex than that. Create an enemy to hate, take an "it's us against them" position, appeal to basic instincts like fear, pride, paranoia, love, anger, etc.... A bit of critical thinking and a healthy dose of skepticism are all the tools required to not be fooled.
Richard Feynman said "The first principle is that you must not fool yourself, and you are the easiest person to fool"

I agree that propaganda only works on the weak and simple-minded (hence all of those people who bought into Carl Rove's "moral majority" bull).
But I don't understand the rest of your question at all.

So fighting idealogies like communism and terrorism are wrong?
Ousting a leader who was sponsoring terror is wrong?
Refusing to give constitutional and geneva conventions to TERRORISTS and illegal combatants that are not US citizens is wrong?
Who is abusing peoples religions? Who is creating a religious war?
You have serious issues.

Propaganda works if it is said over and over again, even the biggest lie in the world will become the truth if it is repeated over and over. Like the weapons of mass destrution, there are still repukes that said Saddam had them.
