I am all for civil unions with equal rights to a marriage, but I am AGAINST gay marriage. I think marriage is between a man and a woman only. If you want to marry somone of the same sex fine, but don't call it marriage. I think it is a matter of respect. There are men in this world and women in this world. Just because we have two different names doesn't mean one is less important or less equal. So why don't many gay people or their supports accept civil unions with same rights as marriage? Civil unions and marriage same legal status, different names but not difference in equality. I think that would be fair compromise.

I am not trying to lump all gay people into the same group that is why I used "many." Mainly the ones you see on TV, the squeaky wheel. I have some gay friends who don't care what the name is, civil union or gay marriage.

I am gay and I am perfectly willing to go along with your compromise, and there are many other gay and lesbians who would as well. Those of us who are willing to compromise are going to be called "Uncle Toms" by those who insist on no compromise, but so what.
You know what a stereotype is? That is when you use one characteristic of some members of a group as the basis of saying that all members of that group are the same way. The fact that some indetermine number of gays -- the most noisy ones especially -- insist that they can not and will not compromise -- is no reason to assume that we all feel that way.
The uncompromising ones say that civil unions is still a label of inferiority. My response is to say that yes, it is indeed that label. But what else is new? We gays have always had a label of inferiority. We would have been far more "inferior" in the eyes of those who wrote the Constitution. Every little bit of improvement helps and to compromise is better than nothing at all.

You are misrepresenting the facts, gays do not have the option of a civil union such as you describe, that is what they are fighting for. The same states that ban gay marriage ban gay civil unions, so where, exactly, is this compromise of which you speak? It the civil rights they want, not the use of the word :marriage".

I think some gay people see it as something less than marriage...even if they are afforded the same rights as a marriage. In the eyes of the law, it's still not a "marriage." I think they're saying why shouldn't it be called a marriage? Call it what it is. A marriage is a marriage.

I don't like gay marriage, but i support it because it makes them happy. After all, they don't affect us by getting married to people of the same sex.

Why don't haters like you support gay people and their right to get married?
How is it really any of your business?
And why do you care?
Why should there be a compromise?
Don't you have better things to worry about--like our earth is melting under our feet. Like hunger, like this stupid war Bush has us in? Like child abuse?
Get a real issue, brother!

You are making an assumption in your question and have stated no facts. When you can give me facts that support your question, I could take your question seriously.

And to prove your point, anna immediately calls you a hater. It's obvious you don't hate them. I don't hate hate them. I feel sorry for them. They are sick but they are there. I wish they would just shut up and stop forcing their agenda on us.
