I never feel quite right when out on a highway. Does this make any sense?

They feel lonely to me late at night. I feel like I'm the only one driving in the darkness and everyone else is safe in their homes.

I always feel out of sorts on a highway. I think it's because highways have no personality. No matter where you are, they're all the same. A few years back, I used to talk on a CB, and that was a great way to learn about local stuff, hear amusing stories, and meet some great people, while out on the road.

I feel comfortable on a highway. I enjoy driving. And there are so many other cars out there - especially on a city loop (need eyes in the back of your head)

I guess driving on a highway late at night could seem lonely cuz it's so dark and harder to see, but I don't do it much for that very reason.

So I guess my answer is: I don't always find the highways lonely.

Awww......I so hate that you feel that way. I love love love taking long drives on the highway alone. It's perhaps one of the only times in my whacky life when I AM all alone and I can think and discover and I feel so.....so... so INDEE'PENDENT!!!

I love that feeling! I get to look out for myself. Take care of myself. The responsibility of getting there is all mine. I love that feeling. In some strange way I feel so secure then. :)

I crank up my tunes and get lost singing at the top of my lungs. I can listen to the same song 18 times and over analyze the thing to pieces and no one else cares.......but me. :)

Make the highway your road to where you are going......and you'll look at it soooooo differently. :)

There's an old folk song by Gordon Lightfoot called "carefree highway"- maybe that would be a good antidote for your highway blues...

It's you , not the highway. Your feelings are based on leaving an area, or where you will be arriving.

Makes sense, but I like being alone in my car - time to think, enjoy the ride, and sing ;)

But with the right person in the passenger seat, of course it's twice as fun :)

I love the open road. Especially if I have my CD's with me. Life is a Highway!

Woo-hoo!

I understand that they do feel lonely, but I enjoy long rides by myself. I often drive from SF to LA and put in my favorite CDs. My friends don't understand that and prefer to fly.
