I have a '98 Grand Am and have noticed that when the dial for the vents for air or heat is off there is a hissing sound, but when I put the air or heat on there is no sound. Anyone know what might be causing this? Thanks

Sounds like one of the blend doors isn't closing all the way. The motor that moves the blend door is probably damaged. The gears in the motors that make the blend doors move usually get a tooth chipped off or stripped when something is accidentally dropped into them from the dash. The motors themselves aren't that expensive but the labor to get to them usually is because in most instances the dash has to be torn apart to gain access.

Look for the leak in a brittle line at the controls, or at the other end at the door. snip a bit off the end and replug it in. Should be fine

It's a vacuum leak some where. Your vent doors are usually vacuum actuated.
